Sign Talent is a start up website for creative professionals (www.signtalent.com). Julie, one of their resident bloggers, said they wanted to interview Erb Photography for their blog. They pitched the interview to us saying they would be asking questions about us, what our backgrounds were, our work/inspiration and any advice we’d have for budding photographers out there.

We of course said “Sure!” so they interviewed us via SKYPE. Which was excellent.

And today I got the link to the interview.

We were really impressed with the whole interview process, but then we realized it had grown into a two part piece. While that surprised us, we was also pretty happy about it.

We invite you will take a look at the blog and read the interview here: SignTalent part 1

and see the rest here: SignTalent part 2

Michael O'Brien at his desk in City Hall

Michael O'Brien at his desk in City Hall

Sometimes you need an updated portrait. Then you get to make all kinds of fun decisions about how you want to do it. These guys didn’t like the first one we did which was done standard style old school. Back drop set up with portrait lighting… so we went into the office and made this shot where  Mr. O’Brien seemed a lot more comfortable. He could easily work at his desk while we were setting up and getting things ready to go. Then when we were ready, we asked him to look up and smile. He looked at home and comfortable and that was what we were looking for. They were all happy with this portrait.

But Scott got to looking around and once everyone was happy with the formal shot, Scott requested just a few mins for something a little different…

He came up with this one, which made him happy -er!

Using available light and a reflector, then incorporating in the architecture of the massive windows on the back wall of the City Hall Building, Scott composed this image. He used great care as to where Mr. O’Brien stood in front of the carefully maneuvered blinds behind him. Who knows if they will ever use this images for anything ever- but it’s one for his personal portfolio.

Photographers Take Over Worcester Gallery For A One-Night Show

Things We Project

Things We Project

Photographers can be real control freaks.

From behind the camera, they crop the composition, manipulate the lighting and adjust the focus. But that’s just the beginning. Now they’re taking control of a Worcester gallery for a one-night show.

“I have my own ideas about what I want to show, and how to show it,” said Jeff Haynes, one of the exhibiting photographers and the show’s organizer. “And while this area definitely has lots of great galleries and talented curators, I just don’t have the patience to wait for one of them to get on board with my vision.”

As a result, Haynes is organizing Things We Project with five other Massachusetts photographers. The show, set for Saturday Sept. 18, 2010 at the Sprinkler Factory, will feature photographers Nicole Chan, Scott Erb, Jeff Haynes, Dana Lane, Steve Stearns and Cynthia Woehrle.

“As the name suggests, this event is designed specifically for each photographer to showcase what he or she aims to achieve as an artist,” Haynes said.

Each photographer has selected 10 images to represent one cohesive body of work for the show. The six collections vary widely in scope, including figurative, narrative, travel and painterly style photos. Worcester photographer, Scott Erb, has chosen to highlight ten portraits from his Red Room Project for display. “I’m excited about this show. It’s an opportunity for me to showcase some of my favorite images from a year long project.” Erb said.

“This is a chance for the photographers to talk about how they view the world through their respective lenses,” Haynes said. “I didn’t want a show constrained by a single theme – I wanted an honest presentation from each photographer of what he or she likes to shoot.”

The 60 photos will be presented through a combination of computer displays and digital projectors. The move was made, in part, to save on the costs in printing, matting and framing 60 images. But there were other considerations, too.

“The projectors certainly add a theatrical element, which I like,” Haynes said. “And the computer displays provide a relatable interface for viewers. Most of us see a steady stream of images on our computer screens, thanks to the Internet. So the show will feature a variation on a format we have come to accept for viewing photos.”

The show is scheduled to run from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at the Sprinkler Factory, 38 Harlow St., Worcester, Mass. The show is free and open to the public.

High resolution copies of sample photos are available to media upon request. Things We Project is a special, one-night-only event happening on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 7:30 to 10 at the Sprinkler Factory, 38 Harlow St. in Worcester, Mass. The show is free and open to the public.

FNW_88984Logo_4194, originally uploaded by Erb Photo.

Erb Photography runs photo workshops a couple of times a year. The most recent one took place on March 13th in Worcester. We had an amazing group of photographers, a wonderful stylist, and one stunning model. The topic of this workshop was called Stunning Styling, Stunning Lighting for the Fine Art Figure.

I’ve posted several photos from this workshop on a private group on Flickr, because the content is considered “adult in nature.” But the truth is I have a whole other art side to my photography that deals with that type of work. I keep the two completely separate and even have separate web sites to show case the work. I have had buyers of my fine art work from all over the world and have been represented by some very nice galleries. The work has been featured in national magazines and you can even watch a video from my very first “One Man Show” on my personal work web site: http://www.theintimateportrait.com.

I hope you enjoy this whole new side…

When the wait staff at the Abbey asks us if have ever been there before – I almost feel guilty about saying that we haven’t- but what comes after the answer is so great- I like hearing it over and over again. So we lie every time and say- “…nope never been here before.” Then we are told all about how the food comes from local sources- Fresh sources. Yes- local- as in places like Crystal Brook Farm in Sterling, MA and Berberian Farm in Northboro, MA. Sometimes it so local its right next door- from Dr. Gonzos.

The this summer the menu boasted that weeks best: “Ready for the picking in Northboro this week: Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Peaches & Nectarines at Tougas Farm! Fresh Scallions, Radishes, Peas, Beans, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, all kinds of Herbs & Greens at Berberian Farm!

Goodness- those raspberries were just amazing. WE love this… Take a look and you’ll see why we love this…

If you like beer, you have yet another reason to join folks at the Abbey. They have a HUGE selection. The staff never steers us wrong when we are looking to try something new and different.

Our favorite corner of the place to rest and eat is not actually pictured here. We love the front windows with their seating. We can watch the world go by… But this is a very good look at the rest of the Abbey space. All warm woods with cushy seats…
